America’s Fastest Half

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 4th installment of Project 13.1 on March 22, 2025. It was a special day out on the lake, with countless PRs and incredible performances. You can find the results linked above, along with two photo albums below. We expect to announce the date for Project 13.1 2026 in the fall, so stay tuned!

The Course

The Project 13.1 course, renowned as one of the fastest in the country, is a USATF/IAAF-certified route designed for speed. Runners will head out for roughly 3/4 mile, make a 180-degree turn, pass the start line, and then complete four clockwise loops around the lake. To ensure everyone follows the shortest possible path, we'll have someone marking the tangents along the course, giving you the most efficient line for every loop.

Race Day Information!

  • Two Waves: In order to provide the best possible race experience for all athletes and minimize lapping and overcrowding out on the course, we will be running this event in two waves. The waves will be:

    • 7:00 AM: For those aiming to run 1:16:00 or faster.

    • 8:25 AM: For those aiming to run 1:16:00 or slower.

** Any athletes planning to run in the 76 minute range will have the option to choose which wave they prefer to race with.

  • Bib Pickup: We will have a bib pickup at Rockland Lake State Park, Parking Lot 5, from 2-5 PM on March 21 (the day before the event). You can also grab your bib (and Project 13.1 hat) on race day starting at 5:45 AM.

  • The event will start in Parking Lot 5. There will be spots there for about 100 or so cars. After that lot fills up you will be required to park in Parking Lot 4, at the bottom of the map below. Please keep in mind that that is about a 1/3rd mile walk from the starting line.

  • All participants receive a complimentary hot breakfast with their race entry, featuring eggs, French toast, roasted potatoes, baked goods, and more. We’re also offering a limited number of breakfast tickets for friends and family who want to enjoy a meal while cheering you on. If your supporters would like to join, please share this link so they can secure their tickets ASAP!

  • A few participants who have recently been out on the course have asked us about the construction taking place on one section on the bike path. (Right now if you attempt to run the full loop there is one small detour that you are forced to take.) We are aware of this, and the team at Rockland Lake State Park has assured us that they will have the path open for us on race day and there won't be any extra turns. There may be a brief patch of gravel that you need to run over, but it shouldn't slow anyone down!

  • A water station will be located near the start/finish line, along with designated tables for individualized bottle service. If you requested bottle service, you can find your table assignment here.

Additional Information

Is there a time standard to enter this event?

Kinda! Project 13.1 is built for runners aiming to complete a half marathon in under 90 minutes. We’ll have pacers to support runners going for times under that goal, and if you anticipate running a slower time, be aware that you might find yourself running solo—and other races may offer a better experience for you this spring. That said, if you’re up for the challenge and excited about what this race represents, we’d be happy to have you!

I am interested in pacing? How do I signup?

This event relies on incredible pacers! If you're interested in pacing one of the groups listed above, let us know by filling out this form. Pacing this event is a great way to log a hard workout, and you’re welcome to pace the first half and then finish the race. Pacers receive free entry to a future Trials of Miles event of their choice, a Project 13.1 Fractel hat, a Tracksmith singlet, and breakfast after the event. Questions? Email joe@trialsofmilesracing.com.

Is there a capacity limit on this event?

Currently, we’re planning to host a single race (with all genders competing together) with around 300 runners starting at 7am. However, if demand significantly exceeds expectations, we may expand capacity and move to a two-wave start. Any changes all be clearly communicated well before race day.

WHere should I stay?

If you are coming from out of town and need a place to stay near the race course, we have a room block reserved at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Nanuet (425 East Route 59), which is a 15 min drive from the park. It’s $129/night and the cutoff date is March 7. The group code is TMP. Use this link to reserve a room.

Project 13.1 V1-v3

This will be our fourth installment of Project 13.1, a race that we first hosted in November 2020 during the height of the pandemic. That first race saw Thomas Toth 1:04:07 (4:53/mile) and Annmarie Tuxbury in 1:14:38 (5:42/mile) take home the wins. In September 2021, we hosted the second edition with larger fields led by Patricio Castillo (1:02:14, 4:45/mile), and Susanna Sullivan (1:10:49, 5:24/mile). Our third event, held in early 2023 saw three men and four women dip under the half marathon OTQ times, led by Nathan Martin in 1:02:41.75 (4:47/mile) and Jacqueline Gaughan in 1:11:17.33 (5:27/mile).
